Dreams Don’t Have Deadlines

Starting over after a divorce can be challenging. Starting over after a divorce at forty-four, in a new city, during a pandemic, can be downright radical. But that’s just what I did. I packed up my plants, guitars, and a ridiculous amount of clothes in search of inspiration for my writing and renewed energy for my spirit.

In a reflective moment, I thought about the Eric Roberson song “Dreams Don’t Have Deadlines”. At midlife, I could be content at my corporate job and count down the days till retirement. There’s no shame in that. Or, I could take this half of my life and try to live more purposefully. To become an author, songwriter, and musician has always been a dream deferred. After meeting some artists and creatives, I’ve learned that many began their journey later in life too. They now live a life with success not defined by others but defined by a dream fulfilled.

As I embark on my own journey, I will share my story as well as other artists and entrepreneurs who have started their “second-coming” at midlife. Dreams don’t have deadlines. Neither should we. Trust your heart and then follow.
