The Challenge of Consistency

Different looks like the mentality that repels your best future possible from connecting with our past.” ― Dexter A. Daniels, Consistent, Not Different: Why We Stray from the Path and Reasons to Return.

Consistency is one of my life’s greatest struggles. After consulting with my brother, we surmised that our beautiful parents gave us choices. We had a choice to get out of things we didn’t like or what we weren’t comfortable doing. Everything wasn’t an easy out. They left enough for life lessons on being dependable and keeping our word, but we had the freedom to explore whatever our short attention spans were currently into.

Unfortunately, the downside to all this freedom is the inability to stick and stay. It’s odd because I often stay in, other, less promising situations beyond their expiration date with no problem. There are many reasons this happens to all of us, and I am on a personal journey (however long that lasts) to discover my triggers and ways to overcome them. The stick and stay movement has begun, and it includes journaling my emotions when I don’t feel like moving forward, asking myself what great things would come from finishing, and finally, listing things I am grateful for at that moment. What amazing things could we all accomplish if our follow-through game was tight?
