“The best is right in front of us, if we want it to be.”

I saw a segment on the Today Show that asked the question, “At what age did you peak?”  Just like me, the anchors wanted clarification on the meaning of peak.  The Collins Dictionary describes a peak as when a process or an activity is at its strongest, most successful, or most fully developed.  When something peaks, it reaches its highest value or its highest level.  At 44, I still have a lot to put in between my “dash”.  What’s with this notion of being on a decline?

Some women are becoming empty nesters at midlife, thinking about dreams they may have put aside to finish school, start a family, a career, and be all things to everybody but themselves.  A renewed purpose stands before them, and someone tells them there is nothing more to accomplish in this life?  Nobel laureate Dale T. Mortensen said, “Every great achievement is but a small peak in the mountain range of contributions.”  So, ladies, we haven’t peaked. We’re just getting started.

We’re just getting started.
